Event Description

As we age, physiological changes lead to a decline in muscle mass and strength, increasing vulnerability to frailty and the risk of falls. However, engaging in strength training exercises has been proven to counteract these effects. Regular participation in such exercises not only enhances muscle mass but also boosts bone density, thereby reducing the likelihood of osteoporosis and preserving independent function.

Beyond these fundamental advantages, numerous other benefits of strength training have been uncovered. This includes mitigating the signs and symptoms of chronic conditions like heart disease, arthritis, and type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it contributes to improved sleep quality and a reduction in feelings of depression.

It's crucial to recognize that the merits of strengthening exercises extend to everyone, not solely dedicated bodybuilders. I invite you to join me in a new class where we'll incorporate small hand weights (small full water bottles make effective alternatives). The class will encompass both seated and standing exercises, with various options tailored to individual capabilities. We'll also utilize a small towel and engage in exercises against a wall. Remember, you can always take breaks or participate in only parts of the class, gradually building up your stamina. I look forward to seeing you there.

  • Duration: 45 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (a recording will be available)
  • Please bring small hand weights or an alternative such a small full water bottles or tins of food.
