Event Description

It is a geographical area, combining five previous regions, from the merger on January 1 2016 of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie. With a base in the Dordogne this area gave me a great opportunity to explore many exciting places in S.W France, from the vineyards of the Medoc, miles and miles of famous vineyards, producing a wide range of wines that include some of the best and most expensive in the world, to Oyster farms on the Mediterranean. Ancient cities like Carcassonne and the village of the Martyrs at Oradour sur Glane. Plum Village, a Buddhist community just south of Bergerac founded by Thich Nhat Hanh, or the subterranean monolithic churches hewn out of the rock at Aubeterre and St Emillion. From the foothills of the Pyrenees and the land of the Cathars to the wild and exciting Atlantic coast there will be so many special places to explore, and I am looking forward to sharing this with you

Malcolm Meadows

Meet the Host, Malcolm

Malcolm began his career as a pharmaceutical apprentice at the age of 15 in 1948, the same time as the introduction of the National Health Service. Following his graduation with a degree in Pharmacy, his work took him to many parts of Britain including 17 years in Salisbury where he was very much involved with the Cathedral and life of the city.

Throughout his career, Malcolm has always had a keen interest in Art, History, and Music so following his retirement he was able to develop these interests to give illustrated lectures to numerous local groups including Rotary, U3A, and WI’s, and for the past 6 years has also given presentations on Cruise ships with Saga and Fred Olsen, sailing to exotic destinations around the World. His presentations are always compiled for as wide an audience as possible and include an amazing collection of images and usually incorporate musical interludes to accompany the subject.
