Event Description

The University of Cambridge, and its many colleges, are not only seats of learning, but replete too with history and tradition all of their own.  Simon was fortunate to be an undergraduate there in the 1990s, reading English Literature and soaking up the atmosphere of eight centuries of learning.  In this gentle virtual stroll around the colleges, Simon will explore this history of this remarkable institution, and some of the traditions which have come to characterize university life.  Along the way, he will share some anecdotes of his own time there – some (hopefully) inspiring, and others perhaps a little less edifying!

  • Duration: 60 mins

Meet the Host, Dr Simon Gregor

Dr Simon Gregor is a historian and tour guide. After completing his first degree in English Literature at the University of Cambridge, he worked for about 18 years as a civil servant. He went on to train and work as a tour guide, leading history, literature and cultural tours across Europe. He took his PhD in history at the University of Wolverhampton, and lectures regularly both in person and online. He has a passion for bringing history to life, in particular by looking at the human stories and impacts which lie behind the sweeping changes of political and social history.
