At the beginning of 1999 I was at the peak of my career in an Executive position for a company who were the eyes and ears for media organisations.

By the end of 1999, I was bed-bound, unable to hold a conversation, watch TV, listen to the radio or read a book. The medical profession diagnosed me with the chronic illness known as ME and told me there was no cure, I would just have to learn to live with this illness.

On the 31st July 2007, having endured 8 years of what felt like a living death, I discovered a cure. The Daily Mail published an article by Esther Rantzen whose daughter Emily had just recovered from 15 years of being wheelchair-bound with the same illness.

I embarked on the same method of recovery as Emily. I too learned how to retrain my brain to be well within hours which meant that only six weeks later I was driving around Europe, feeling on top of the world, like a little girl let loose in a sweet shop!

Qualifying as a practitioner

I was a reasonably intelligent person, however, I couldn`t work out how I recovered from a chronic illness so rapidly. Sounds daft I know, but it seemed like magic.

I had to find out how this stuff worked so I embarked on the training course, called The Lightning Process, and qualified to teach others what I`d learned.

My recovery was so rapid, so easy and permanent. Why didn`t I know about this before and why don`t other people know about this today?

How does it work so quickly?

It`s not a treatment, a therapy or a cure. It`s a training course that teaches you how you can influence your health and happiness using techniques based on the way the mind and body speak to each other.

The training is so easy and suitable for all age groups, from children to people in their eighties and nineties, across all levels of ability. It`s interesting, simple, easy to understand, fun, interactive and very practical.

There is a clear link between what we think and feel and how our body works. It`s amazing to learn that thinking differently, changing your posture, your language and beliefs, can have a huge influence on things like pain, depression, grief, anxiety, in fact, anything that`s causing unhappiness.

The course runs for three days, 4-5 hours each day, in groups of up to six people, across all ages and conditions. It involves learning and practising a set of simple physical steps and repeating them. These steps are not vigorous or physically demanding and can be tailored to the most debilitated clients.

How easy is it to teach people to think differently?

This is the tricky bit and the real reason behind why I became so ill. I had very fixed ideas and views based on my personal history and what I`d learned over the years.

Initially, I thought this kind of thing wasn`t for me, but for people with their head in the clouds. However, I`d tried everything else from conventional medicine, seeing a psychiatrist to having someone Feng Shui my house, so what did I have to lose?

Training to become a speaker

I wanted to shout about this from the rooftops but was so shocked that no one seemed interested in what I had to say.

I had found it difficult to change my own thinking, so how could I get people to want to listen to what I had to say?

I was so adamant that this knowledge would benefit many other people that I couldn`t give up.

Therefore, I decided to train to become a speaker and become more engaging, the type of person that people wanted to listen to, so that I could tell them what happened to me and in turn help them

How do I encourage others to listen to my message?

Firstly, my recovery is a wonderful example of what`s possible.

At the age of 70 years old, I`m not only a survivor of chronic illness but a person who blazes a trail through life; a bit of an adrenaline junkie, fitter and healthier than I`ve ever been.

I still have a thirst and a passion for learning about how we can all be more powerful, healthy and influential in our own lives.

Secondly, I weave the knowledge and wisdom I`ve acquired over many years into entertaining stories and interactive talks for audiences who want to have even more fun and enjoy life to the full, physically and emotionally.
