The term ‘Suffragette’ will always be associated with women’s fight to win the vote but Melanie’s talk will present a much wider insight, including the early, often overlooked, pioneers of women’s rights. Melanie will discuss the numerous crossroads during the campaign and how each resulted in disappointment for women at the hands of those fearful of losing power. The difference between the Suffragettes and the Suffragists will be explained, encouraging the audience members to consider which they would have had the courage to become, at a time when even wearing a badge could have resulted in verbal and physical abuse.

Meet The Speaker, Melanie
From being an enjoyable part-time ‘hobby’ the repeat bookings for Melanie Gibson-Barton's talks grew to such an extent that she gave up her 'day job' to become a full-time speaker. Many of her talks have been commissioned by previous audiences for commemorative occasions.
Preparing for the Event
For the best experience, you will need to have Zoom downloaded onto your computer. Please ensure you're connected to broadband/wifi rather than using your mobile phone connection (3G/4G).
We also recommend that pets are either calmly sitting on your lap or in another room, and any refreshments you may require are within your reach!
