Monday is Washday

Talks - General Interest

Event Description

Doing the washing was the Monday morning chore in every household. Starting with getting up early to light the fire under the copper boiler, we will take a step back in time and recall the sweat (and tears) of washdays in the early-mid 20th Century. Some of our favourite detergents such as Oxydol, Rinso, and Omo will help to jog a few memories.

  • Duration: 45 mins
  • Online Zoom Event: An event held in person
  • Join as an individual or book for private groups up to 300
Kath Reynolds

Meet The Speaker, Kath

Kath's library role allowed her the opportunity to develop her passion for reminiscence work. Together with a colleague from Stoke-on-Trent Museums, she wrote an OCN accredited course, "Delivering Reminiscence". This course was very successful and she delivered it for more than six years. She describes herself as "keenly interested in people; their lives and their communities". Her talks and reminiscence sessions reflect a great many years of collecting stories, memories and musings from the people of Staffordshire and surrounding counties. She is always vigilant to research and verify "facts" - although she often share the "facts" which are clearly fiction... purely because they are entertaining!

Preparing for the Event

For the best experience, you will need to have Zoom downloaded onto your computer. Please ensure you're connected to broadband/wifi rather than using your mobile phone connection (3G/4G).

We also recommend that pets are either calmly sitting on your lap or in another room, and any refreshments you may require are within your reach!
