For Weddings, Baptisms and Funerals

Talks/Lectures

Event Description

We all know what to expect when we attend one of the rites of passage in a church - but these ceremonies have not always been the same. Most were far more complicated in the past and this talk explores the clues that are left in a handful of churches that show how things used to be done. Discover tales of medieval weddings that didn't actually take place in the church; the baptisms without the father being present; the reusable coffins and paper crowns that marked the burial of a virgin. There really is something for everyone in this tale of our rites of passage.
