DIY Poetry Workshop

Event Description

No matter what your aptitude with written english, anyone can have fun by stringing words together in some way, shape or form. And maybe, in the process, you’ll learn something about yourself and how you relate to the world about you!

Andy will be presenting a humorous mix of poetry, encouragements and poetic exercises to engage participants, whatever their entry level.

The only qualification for engaging in this workshop is a commitment to be yourself and have a go! There’s no need for good spelling, punctuation and grammar if you can dare to believe that there’s a creative spark in every human being ... and that includes you!

  • Duration: 60 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (no replay available)
  • Join as an individual or book for private groups up to 300

Meet the Host, Andy

Andy Smith is a performance poet, author and former business communicator who has two artificial limbs, three fine children, a whippet called Tamba and a tabby called Toby. (He also had two feisty chickens until ‘Basil Brush’ made their acquaintance). Andy engages live and digital audiences with his poetry, humour and a smattering of history ... and once a year, the bionic bard and his long-suffering wife make a trip to West Africa to support and encourage victims of trauma.

Preparing for the Event

For the best experience, you will need to have Zoom downloaded onto your computer. Please ensure you're connected to broadband/wifi rather than using your mobile phone connection (3G/4G).

We also recommend that pets are either calmly sitting on your lap or in another room, and any refreshments you may require are within your reach!

Outstanding! Never tried anything like this before and was hooked. His replies to those who read out their poems was supportive and genuine. Great speaker - great poems and thoughts. Thank you for a brilliant session that sped by! Lindsey.

I have always been interested in poetry since I was a child but up until now not been to a lecture on how to go about writing poetry. I found it very easy and relaxed Workshop. I was able to get some lines written which were very helpful if not mind- blowing. He has a kind demeanour when he delivers his lecture which I found endearing.

Terrific workshop! Enjoyable and entertaining (due to Andy's performance background); accessible tasks; loads of encouragement; great feedback when people shared. I would have paid for this one. Thanks, Andy and Mirthy, and hope to come again?
