Paul celebrates his first formal dance (to Strauss’s Blue Danube Waltz on Weymouth pier with his mum) by cycling the Danube from its source to Vienna. Crossing France he visits the Verdun battlefields, crosses the bridge where Louis XV1 and Marie Antoinette met their doom, and learns about the designer of America’s greatest icon. Along the Danube, he visits Einstein’s birthplace, the scene of Mozart’s first concert, the German Parthenon, and a Nazi concentration camp. In Vienna, he seeks out Johan Strauss, dives into the Blue Danube, and gets to dance above it, though sadly the salsa, not the waltz.
