Event Description
Toulouse-Lautrec was drawn to Montmartre, an area of Paris famous for its bohemian lifestyle and for being the haunt of artists, writers, and philosophers. He spent much of his time in brothels, where he was accepted by the prostitutes and madams to such an extent that he often moved in, and lived in a brothel for weeks at a time. He shared the lives of the women, painting and drawing them at work and at leisure. He was an important post-Impressionist painter, art nouveau illustrator and his posters and lithographs are now celebrated for heralding the birth of graphic design.

Meet the Host, Malcolm
Malcolm began his career as a pharmaceutical apprentice at the age of 15 in 1948, the same time as the introduction of the National Health Service. Following his graduation with a degree in Pharmacy, his work took him to many parts of Britain including 17 years in Salisbury where he was very much involved with the Cathedral and life of the city.
Throughout his career, Malcolm has always had a keen interest in Art, History, and Music so following his retirement he was able to develop these interests to give illustrated lectures to numerous local groups including Rotary, U3A, and WI’s, and for the past 6 years has also given presentations on Cruise ships with Saga and Fred Olsen, sailing to exotic destinations around the World. His presentations are always compiled for as wide an audience as possible and include an amazing collection of images and usually incorporate musical interludes to accompany the subject.

We also recommend that pets are either calmly sitting on your lap or in another room, and any refreshments you may require are within your reach!

What if I can’t make the event?
If a recording’s available for the event, you can still register for it and we will send you an email with a link to a recording shortly after it ends.
Will my camera be on and will I be visible to the other people?
Your camera and microphone does not need to be on for you to enjoy the event. The choice about whether to do this is completely yours.
How do I watch the live event?
Rest Less events are hosted on Zoom, a computer application that allows you to attend online events just by clicking a link. For detailed instructions, please go to our "FAQ" page, which you can find a link to in the nav bar at the top of the page.
How do I sign-up for and access the recording? (Recorded events only)
Book the event as normal (as if you are attending live). After the event ends you will automatically receive a post-event email with a link to the recording, as long as the event was recorded. You do not need to do anything else and there is no separate booking process for recordings only. Please note it can take up to 24 hours for Zoom to process recordings.
