Event Description

In this event, Abbie speaks to Dr Michelle Asantewa - novelist, lecturer in English Literature, Editing and Creative Writing, and independent scholar. Dr Michelle co-founded Way Wive Wordz Publishing, Editing and Tuition services through which she published her first novel, 'Elijah' and 'The Awakening and Other Poems'.

We will be discussing the Mirthy Book Club's 'Book of the Month', Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, published in 1966. This novel seeks to tell the story of Bertha, the 'madwoman in the attic', serving as a prequel to Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre.

Suitable for anyone who is interested in literature, the Brontes, and post-colonial narratives and history.

  • Duration: 1 hour

Meet the Host, Abbie

Abbie is the Events and Community Manager at Mirthy, moderating many of the weekly events. As an avid reader and keen musician, she also runs the Mirthy Book Club and Desert Island Discs events. She loves chatting to Mirthy members at the community events, and relishes the challenge of leading the Book Club Q&A every month.

Preparing for the Event

For the best experience, you will need to have Zoom downloaded onto your computer. Please ensure you're connected to broadband/wifi rather than using your mobile phone connection (3G/4G).

We also recommend that pets are either calmly sitting on your lap or in another room, and any refreshments you may require are within your reach!
