Event Description

We tell stories all the time, about what we have done or not done, the stories we have heard from others, those we have read or simply remembered. The Storytelling Café is an opportunity to both share stories and listen to them.

Every place has its own stories to tell about its past and the people who lived there and what they did. Some of them are actual history, whilst others have become local legends or folklore and some might be described as urban myths. This Storytelling Cafe is about local history, legends or folklore in different areas of the UK or maybe further afield. Come and join us to share stories about either history or legends that belongs to where you live, or simply come and listen.

Bring a story to tell to the group, or simply come to listen to a collection of stories from fellow Mirthy members.

  • Duration: 60 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (no replay available)

Meet the Host, Sandy

Sandy Leong has had 3 careers and is currently working on her fourth. She started her working life as a teacher, moving on to work as a training and development officer before becoming the Chief Officer of a Racial Equality Council. Seeking more work / life balance she set up a training business delivering training to a wide range of organisation all over the country and abroad (the work / life balance did not materialise!). She also undertook training qualifications as a performance coach and a counsellor.

Now she combines her lifelong passion for history as a professional speaker, speaking nationally and internationally, and as a coach and trainer working with others to help them develop their skills to reach their potential, and sneaking in a few storytelling performances.

Believing in having multiple strands creates a fulfilling life, she is also a published author, and currently the Chair of the Board of Trustees for a large Charity and Chair of her local museum committee, a wife, a mum, and grandparent.

    October 2021

Sandy got us thinking about where we live and then a story about dragons and concurring fear. I felt comfortable to share my thoughts and hear some interesting stuff from other participants. Sandy instilled me with the confidence to keep listening and telling stories.

Retirement? Mmmm, I remember the idea but......

    November 2021

I really enjoyed meeting Sandie & the other people. The talk & interaction was very interesting & relevant to the season. It is so important that we have the opportunity to do things like this, particularly if unable to meet up outside the home at this odd time. Sandie was very friendly and made us all feel welcome. She was reassuring about the use of Zoom for those who were new to it. I shall look forward to joining more talks & events, as & when I am able. Retirement? Mmmm, I remember the idea but......
