- DURATION 60 mins
True romantics will probably not be bothered about questions of money, but it's estimated that in 2020 we British spent approximately £1.5 billion on Valentine cards! But there's nothing new about commemorating St Valentine's Day, a festival that has been said to have its roots in an ancient Roman fertility celebration which took place around 13th-15th February each year. What we know is that by the mid-19th century some of our Valentine traditions were already firmly established.
This talk is for anyone who is interested in the history of celebrating St Valentine's Day and would like to take a look at some of the fashions in the design of Valentine cards over the centuries. Amazingly, a number of these cards have survived to show us how they developed over the years.
