Drawing Workshop: Light/Shadow

Arts and Crafts

Event Description

November's drawing class will be suitable for those of any ability and require little set-up for the participants. The class will cover a variety of drawing exercises to build confidence and experiment with different techniques. We will focus on dark and light: using a broad tonal range, pulling images out of darkness, and understanding how contrast affects the overall effect of an artwork.

Materials needed:

- Paper

- Pencils (I like to use 2B or 3B, but a normal pencil is also fine)

- Rubber

- Sharpener

- Piece of scrap paper (about A4)

- Piece of scrap foil (About A4)

- A ball, orange, egg, or bauble

  • Duration: 90 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (no replay available)

Meet the Host, Caitlin

Caitlin Heslop (b.1990) is a London based artist working predominantly in pencil, pastel and oil paint. Caitlin loves drawing from nature and from memory, this dualistic way of working brings a dreamlike quality to her work. Caitlin set up Barely Drawing in 2016, a drawing collective aimed at gathering individuals together both in person and online to cultivate creativity within community.

Preparing for the Event

For the best experience, you will need to have Zoom downloaded onto your computer. Please ensure you're connected to broadband/wifi rather than using your mobile phone connection (3G/4G).

We also recommend that pets are either calmly sitting on your lap or in another room, and any refreshments you may require are within your reach!
