This series will take you through the history of sieges starting with the oldest story from Europe and ending in how today’s society we see them as a war crime.
1) The Ancient World (June 21)
The oldest story in Europe is one of a siege. The Trojan wars have been a story retold for more than 3000 years. In this talk we go through that very edge of history to the fall of the Roman Empire
2) The Middle Ages (June 28)
Castles and sieges are synonymous with the middle ages. In this talk we look at some of the most famous ones and finally explain the difference between a fort and a castle.
3) Early Modern to Modern (July 5)
Siege warfare continued in the era of cannon and artillery with some of the bloodiest and longest occurring in this age.

Jem is a published historian and historical fiction writer. He writes and speaks about a broad range of subjects covering different areas and continents. His greatest joy is uncovering little-known fascinating facts and sharing them with an audience.

What if I can’t make the event?
If a recording’s available for the event, you can still register for it and we will send you an email with a link to a recording shortly after it ends.
Will my camera be on and will I be visible to the other people?
Your camera and microphone does not need to be on for you to enjoy your Mirthy event. The choice about whether to do this is completely yours.
How do I watch the live event?
