Event Description

This series will take you through the history of sieges starting with the oldest story from Europe and ending in how today’s society we see them as a war crime.

1) The Ancient World (June 21)

The oldest story in Europe is one of a siege. The Trojan wars have been a story retold for more than 3000 years. In this talk we go through that very edge of history to the fall of the Roman Empire

2) The Middle Ages (June 28)

Castles and sieges are synonymous with the middle ages. In this talk we look at some of the most famous ones and finally explain the difference between a fort and a castle.

3) Early Modern to Modern (July 5)

Siege warfare continued in the era of cannon and artillery with some of the bloodiest and longest occurring in this age.
