I’m glad I found you. I said this to my wife - without Mirthy, my life would be far less richer than it is now.

Event Description

Join the Mirthy Book Club for a coffee and chat to talk about our favourite reads. We will be discussing the Book of the Month and chatting about books generally. This is a chance to meet other bookworms in the community.

For May, our book of the month is 'The Midwife' by Tricia Cresswell. The book is available in hardback, paperback, audiobook, and on Kindle here.

For June, our book of the month is The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83¼ Years Old by Hendrik Groen

All you need for this event is an electronic device, a mug, and a love of reading.

Do consider joining our Facebook group to participate in discussions and if you'd like to join our monthly mailing list, send an email to community@mirthy.co.uk requesting to be added.

  • Duration: 60 mins
  • Online Zoom event: Join from your computer, phone or tablet (no replay available)

Meet the Host, Abbie

Abbie is the Events and Community Manager at Mirthy, moderating many of the weekly events. As an avid reader and keen musician, she also runs the Mirthy Book Club and Desert Island Discs events. She loves chatting to Mirthy members at the community events, and relishes the challenge of leading the Book Club Q&A every month.

Preparing for the Event

For the best experience, you will need to have Zoom downloaded onto your computer. Please ensure you're connected to broadband/wifi rather than using your mobile phone connection (3G/4G).

We also recommend that pets are either calmly sitting on your lap or in another room, and any refreshments you may require are within your reach!

More Information

What if I can’t make the event?

If a recording’s available for the event, you can still register for it and we will send you an email with a link to a recording shortly after it ends.

Will my camera be on and will I be visible to the other people?

Your camera and microphone does not need to be on for you to enjoy your Mirthy event. The choice about whether to do this is completely yours.

How do I watch the live event?

Mirthy events are hosted on Zoom, a computer application that allows you to attend online events just by clicking a link. For detailed instructions, please go to our "FAQ" page, which you can find a link to in the nav bar at the top of the page.

The event was very nice and friendly: everyone welcomed the other bookwormers very heartily. Therefore we could exchange our opinions on the prompt questions in a lively atmosphere. The host was very good as usual. I do appreciate Abby for her kindness, wit because she always drives the attendees on the right path to let everyone have their saying. Thanks. I’ll try not to miss the Book Club Morning Cafe in future.

I really enjoyed this "coffee morning," it was my first time and I did not quite know what to expect . An interesting gathering with members from different countries and backgrounds. Abbie did a great job and the breakdown into smaller groups led to some stimulating discussion. Thank you to everyone!
